⚠️ Not the Same as Buffalo Bayou Fishing

Our Trinity River trips target trophy-class alligator gar — fish that regularly exceed 100 lbs and have topped 200 lbs. If you want a true prehistoric monster, the Trinity River near Huntsville is where you need to be — not the bayous inside the city.

We have three guides specifically covering the Trinity River corridor closest to Houston — from Huntsville south through Livingston and toward the coast. This means availability is excellent and you always fish with a guide who knows your specific stretch of river intimately.

🎣
Cody — Huntsville Area
Trinity River · Huntsville Corridor · Closest to Houston

Cody has been guiding with Garzilla since 2012 and covers the Huntsville area of the Trinity River — the closest access point to Houston. His stretch of the Trinity consistently produces trophy-class fish and is where many of our biggest catches come from.

🎣
Dalton — Lake Livingston Dam Area
Trinity River · Below Livingston Dam · I-10 Corridor

Dalton grew up fishing the Trinity River below Lake Livingston Dam and the surrounding areas along I-10. He knows every productive location on this stretch and consistently puts clients on big fish. Easy access from Houston via I-45 North.

🎣
Lance — Livingston to Coast
Lower Trinity River · Livingston to Gulf Coast

Lance specializes in fishing the lower Trinity River from Livingston south toward the coast. This remote stretch of the Trinity sees less pressure and holds some of the largest fish in the river system. Accessible from Houston via US-59 North.

What You Can't Get in Houston

Houston has local fishing guides on Buffalo Bayou and the San Jacinto River. Here's why serious anglers make the 90-minute drive to fish with Garzilla instead:

🐊 Trophy Fish Size

Buffalo Bayou gar average 20–40 lbs. Trinity River gar near Huntsville regularly exceed 100 lbs with 200 lb fish encountered each season. If you want a genuine monster — drive 90 minutes.

🏆 41 IGFA World Records

No Houston-area guide comes close to our record count. Our Trinity River locations have produced more certified IGFA World Records for alligator gar than anywhere on earth.

📺 TV-Verified Credibility

Featured on River Monsters, BBC, National Geographic, Animal Planet. No Houston-area guide has this level of independently verified expertise. When the world's top producers need gar — they come to us.

🌟 Celebrity Track Record

Gordon Ramsay flew in specifically to fish with us. Matt Hughes. Jeremy Wade. 28 celebrities total. These people have access to any guide in the world — they chose Garzilla.

Common Questions from Houston

Where exactly do Houston clients meet the guide?
Our Houston-area guides primarily depart from Trinity River access points near Huntsville and Livingston — approximately 60–90 minutes from most Houston locations. From The Woodlands and Conroe it's even closer at 35–50 minutes. Exact meeting point and directions are sent when you book. Guides are flexible on departure location based on river conditions.
Is the Trinity River better than fishing the Houston bayous for gar?
For trophy fish — yes, significantly. Buffalo Bayou gar typically run 20–40 lbs. Trinity River gar near Huntsville and Livingston regularly exceed 100 lbs and 200 lb fish are caught each season. Our 41 IGFA World Records were all set on the Trinity River, not the bayous. If you want a legitimate trophy experience, the extra drive is worth every minute.
Can you accommodate large Houston corporate groups?
Absolutely — it's one of our specialties. Our 7-boat fleet means we can run multiple boats simultaneously for large groups. We've hosted Houston corporate outings ranging from 6 to 30+ people. Everything is handled — guides, equipment, safety, logistics. Contact us at (903) 724-6888 to discuss your group size and dates.
What's the best time of year for Houston anglers to book?
Our season is April through September. June and July are peak season — this is when gar are most active on the surface near Huntsville and Livingston and when we consistently catch the biggest fish. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for summer dates. Spring (April–May) and late summer (August–September) are excellent and easier to book last minute. Most Houston anglers make it a day trip — early start, home by dinner.
Is this a good trip for Houston families with kids?
Yes — it's one of the most memorable outdoor experiences a Houston family can do. Our guides are experienced with children and adjust every trip to the group's needs. We recommend ages 7 and up for full trips. There is nothing like seeing a child's face when a 100 lb prehistoric fish hits the surface of the Trinity River. It's a day they'll talk about for years.
Do you offer Houston airport pickup for out-of-town guests?
Yes — airport pickup from Houston Hobby (HOU) and Bush Intercontinental (IAH) can be arranged for out-of-town and international clients. We also assist with nearby hotel recommendations in the Huntsville area for clients who want to make it an overnight trip. Contact us to discuss arrangements.
